Austria: !Deladap [Interview]

!Deladap [Interview]
Friday will be the day for Austria to choose their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. One of the participants, the group !Deladap, took the time to speak to us.

Read what lead singer Stani Vana had to say below!

escXtra.com: Hello !Deladap! First of all, we want to thank you for taking the time to speak with us. And of course, congratulations with your participation in the Austrian National Final for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest!
!Deladap: Hello! Thank you for the congratulations and getting in touch with us

X: Could you tell us something about who you are for our worldwide readers?
D: Stani Vana, born in Prague and living in Vienna started !DelaDap in 2002. !DelaDap developed their own „Nu Gypsy“ or „Urban Gypsy Sound“ by mixing gypsy music and modern day club-sounds and beats; so far !DelaDap have realeased four albums, the latest being „I Know What You Want“ and built a reputation as truly original and dynamic live-act with appearances in many countries.

X: Could you tell us about your career so far?
D: We´ve been able to build a solid and dedicated fan base of music lovers, mostly in Austria and eastern european countries like Hungary, Russia, Poland, Greece Turkey…etc, looking for music with that special something. In the process we managed to keep our music exciting for our listeners and ourselves, always growing and evolving artistically. Even if mainstream-„success“ so far might have escaped us - that suits us just fine!

X: What was your first reaction when you heard you were picked to be one of the ten acts for the national final?
D: Screaming out YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! in all the languages I know and making a little dance that made people wonder – hey, what´s up with that guy?!

X: Your first song, Crazy Swing was disqualified. Did you have to think for a long time to find a replacement, or was it obvious that Don’t Turn Around would be the right choice?
D: That was a pretty fast decision, less so because time was tight, more so because it felt completely right to pick exactly that song for everyone involved. We rewrote and rearranged Don´t Turn Around quite a bit for our entry in the national final.

X: Is there a message you want to carry out with Don’t Turn Around?
D: We´re not really a „message-band“. If, then our music itself is the message, the positive energy, our celebration and love of life we hope to share with our audience through it. „(…) Just use your soul / jump on the ride / jump on the ride“

X: Could you tell us a bit more about what we can expect from you at the national final (performance wise)?
D: We will put everything we have in our song and performance – like we always do …

X: Do you watch the Eurovision Song Contest every year?
D: As we perform live quite regulary and also had our own club-night in vienna for some time I rarely had the opportunity to watch the Eurovision Song Contest in the last years. Did I miss much?

X: Do you have a favourite all-time Eurovision song?
D: One choice has to be the pop-perfection and genius of Abba´s „Waterloo“ …

X: If you don’t win the ticket to Baku, will you continue singing and/or do you have other plans for the next year(s)?
D: I would really love to make people wonder with an even crazier dance if we win the national final and get the chance to bring our music to Baku …But even if it´s not to be we will continue making music with !DelaDap, getting our new album „I Know What You Want“ to the people, creating new songs …

X: Finally, do you have a message for our readers?
D: Let the music play!
